Roadshow to Dubai and Abu Dhabi
A few months ahead of the grand opening of Expo 2020 in Dubai, Greater Paris Investment Agency led a delegation (January 15-16) of members to meet the makers in two metropolises of the Gulf: Abu Dhabi et Dubai. Building cities that are both smart and sustainable, a challenge shared by Greater Paris and urban areas in the United Arab Emirates.
Expo 2020: Grand Paris savoir-faire in Dubai
From October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021, Dubai will host the world at the Universal Exhibition 2020, a first in the Middle-East region.
Greater Paris Investment Agency partners with the Compagnie Française des Expositions (COFREX) which is in charge of France’s participation to Expo 2020. As such, our delegation met with the organisers of the event and attended a presentationof the French pavillion given by Erik Linquier, President of COFREX. will feature the savoir-faire developped by those who contribute to the Greater Paris project.
Hosting the Universal Exhibition in the United Arab Emirates’ economic capital takes place in an ambitious tourism strategy. The objective being to become leader in luxury tourism and a global touristic destination.
Like the Olympic Village for Paris 2024 Games, the « legacy » and transformation of the pavillions are at stakes for the organising committee. The project plans to convert the exhibition site into a District 2020 with exemplary environnemental performance.
Sustainable Cities in the making
The delegation had the pleasure to meet with Smart Dubai and discover the big data platform Dubai Pulse that sustains the government’s target to make Dubai the « happiest» city on Earth.
Another project for sustainable city, this time in Abu Dhabi: the new town of « Masdar City ». The field visit with stakeholders allowed us to comprehend the construction progress and grasp the strategic vision behind it.
So as to introduce economic players to opportunities provided wihtin Greater Paris, several meetings were scheduled with the local business community in collaboration with the French Business Council and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dubai, French representation in the UAE, as well as main investors in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
